Poetry
Poetry is an often misunderstood form of writing but the richness it offers to readers should not be forgotten. Listening to poetry and reading it aloud is an excellent way to grow in reading fluency as you follow the rise and fall, the pace and the silences. Poetry can also build memory as the rhythmic patterns are easier to hold onto.
The main reason poetry is so helpful is the rich language and wide variety of words that are used. Describing and expressing an idea in short phrases means you need to choose just the right words to conjure the images and meaning you intend. Poetry offers the reader a rich language experience.
You can also use poetry as a writing stimulus for your own writing or to inspire a visual or embodied creation through visual arts and drama.
